What is your business name and how did you come up with it?

Our business name is Roo-tid. It took months(!) to settle on a name as we wanted something that reflected natures beauty in it's rawest form. We believe 'everything' is rooted one way or another, be it the physical process of human/animal conception down to plants, trees, flowers and even one's mindset. The spelling is a little different, it's how you would pronounce the word according to the English Dictionary and (we think) it looks pretty.

What products do you sell?

We design nature inspired illustrations and get these manufactured in the UK onto tea towels, oven gloves, aprons, cushion covers, tote bags and greeting cards. All our designs are printed on 100% cotton for a top quality finish while our paper products are printed on stock originating from responsibly managed forests and with eco-friendly inks.

What does a typical day look like?

At the moment no day is ever the same! It ranges from forest walks for inspiration, hiking down dirt tracks for photography props to sitting in the studio working on illustrations, social media and paper work. Although, there always seems to be time to get distracted with our two indoor rabbits!

What hours are you open?

We have an online shop which is open 24/7. We aim to process and ship all orders the same day with a delivery time of 1-2 working days.

How many people are behind your business?

At the moment it's myself, my husband and our two house rabbits!

When did you launch?

We launched earlier this year, 26th March 2018! So it's still very early days for us.

What's your favourite part of running your business?

Freedom. Free to experiment and express one's self with your own thoughts. Something that's been welcomed with open arms after a 9 year career in the Graphic Design industry.

What got you into the business?

Walking round craft markets and independent stores, touching and feeling all the delicious textile and paper products has always been a thing of pure pleasure to me. Running our own homeware business has always been a dream and to have found a soul mate who shares this love is an extra bonus!

What makes your business unique?

We're fully aware we work in a very competitive market but to us every illustration isn't just from our imagination. We are very fortunate to live and work near the New Forest in Dorset and so all our animals are ones we have snapped in the wooded area that surrounds us.

Have you any previous experience or interest in this field?

Yes, I studied creative courses through out secondary school, college and university. Graduating in Graphic Design lead me to work in the magazine publishing industry for many years and later moving onto photography styling, marketing and branding. My husband also comes from a creative background in web design and online advertising. (We met at university 13 + years ago!)

Do you have a shop/website?

Yes, we have an online shop at and we also have an Etsy shop at

Do you offer specialist services?

Yes, we offer wholesale services where we sell to trade customers, so our products should be available in many stockists soon!

Where are you located? Does your location reflect your product?

Roo-tid is nestled near the beautiful surroundings of the New Forest, with its endless offering of trees, streams and wildlife, it truly is a playground full of inspiration.

Each illustration originates from forest walks, muddy adventures and the odd ‘sunshine’ stroll; all while snapping away to capture the often unnoticed moments in our otherwise busy world.

From the owl that hoots in our wooded garden to the cheeky woodpecker that strolls up the office path and the forever busy blue tits that eat us out of house and home. Each hand drawn illustration and pattern offers a quick glimpse into the simple lives of our wild neighbours.

How do the seasons affect your business?

We will launch new collections through out the year but overall our themes and colours are dictated by our encounters with nature.

Do you have any projects coming up?

We have a new collection we're working on called Naughty Bunny! Plenty of inspiration taken from our loveable but mischievous house rabbits.

What has been your biggest achievement in your business?

Our biggest achievement to date for the business has been making sales! You never really know how your product's going to be received until you put them out here! We're also very proud to have been accepted to exhibit at Top Drawer Trade Show later this year and also Kirstie Allsopp Handmade fair.

What has been your biggest hurdle?

Our biggest hurdle has been taking the leap from our successful careers and focusing all our time and effort into running our own business. The hurdle was being brave!

What do you think has made your business successful?

Hard work, determination, courage

What advice would you give someone looking to start a business?

Prepare. Save as hard as you can to help support yourself and your business during the first few months. It's a tough time. Then, be kind to yourself. You'll make mistakes and that's ok. Learn from them and move on.

What is your price range of products?

Our products range from £2.50 RRP for our eco-friendly greeting cards to £26.00 RRP for our 100% cotton, printed aprons with a spacious pocket and adjustable neck strap.

What are your popular product?

Everyone seems to be loving our majestic Mr Owl, our handsome Mr Fox and our lovable Mr Hedgehog! (but we love them all!)

Where do you see your business in 5 years' time?

Busting with plenty of new collections, being stocked across the UK in both big retailers and gorgeous independent stores, expanding our product range to ceramics and taking a long overdue holiday!

Tell us a little about you the owner?

A workaholic graphic designer who never knew when to pack up and go home! Working in the publishing and graphic Design industry was a passion of mine where I was fortunate to grow and develop my skills and get promoted to management level, over seeing a team of designers and photographers. A lover of all things pattern based, colourful and rustic. I'm also a sucker for anything out of the ordinary and generally live day to day life in crazy patterned trousers and wellies!

If you had to describe your business in five words, what would they be?

Rooted. Truthful. Observant. Thankful. Alive.

Who is your business aimed at?

Our business is aimed at those who love nature, animals, the outdoors, textiles, colour, and patterns but everyone else is also welcome with open arms!

What makes you stand out from your competitors?

Our designs are bold and colourful, something that'll pop in anyones home :)

Have you got anything exciting coming up?

We have plenty of craft fairs this year... Fordingbridge, Sailsbury, Frome and Bowood House to name a few. We also have the amazing opportunity to be exhibiting at Top Drawer in London.
