Snuggle Truffle

What is your business name and how did you come up with it?

It's all about getting cosy, snuggling up and truffling! If Snuggle Truffle was in the dictionary it would say: Â the act of cuddling up and hunting for the best cosy position.

Whether it's a cold wintry evening, a cool summers day or just tea and toast on the sofa, we all need a good blankie to snuggle under. Truffling also reflects on our approach exploring the globe to source blankets and throws with big personalities for children and adults.

What products do you sell?

We sell blankets, throws and quilts, all designed to deliver the perfect snuggle whether sleeping, beaching or bathing. The designs are full of character and personality and guaranteed to make people smile.

What does a typical day look like?

The day is mostly online, promoting on social media, developing the website or finding new leads. Other days are getting out and about at markets, exhibitions and trade shows to find inspiration.

What hours are you open?

24 / 7 online!

How many people are behind your business? Who are they?

I set up the business and have a crowd of trufflers who help promote the brand.

When did you launch?

We launched in July 2016

What's your favourite part of running your business?

It's fun and sociable. It's also great being part of an entrepreneur community.

What got you into the business?

Snuggle Truffle started with a quest to find a light, organic cotton blanket for my daughter. From an early age my daughter suffered from eczema and needed fabric which didn't irritate and make her too hot but kept her cosy. I found a few great lightweight blankets, but it was hard to find any that had a bit more character and colour to them. So Snuggle Truffle was created. Peshtemal throws are very gentle on skin but amazingly versatile so our customers range from toddlers to beach lovers, to travellers to interior designers.

What makes your business unique?

Our products are full of personality. We feel that even though we are about sleep, relaxation and recharging, that doesn't mean you can't enjoy creative designs.

Have you any previous experience or interest in this field?

No. For me this venture is about pushing out of my comfort zone and learning and developing a whole new set of skills. That's why it's exciting!

Do you have a shop/website?

Yes our website is

Do you offer specialist services?

We are full of personality, but we aren't personalised. We are always happy to talk about fresh ideas with customers.

Where are you located? Does your location reflect your product?

We are based in the Lake District. One of the quilts (The Fells) is completely inspired by our surroundings. We are looking for more seaside locations in summer as the peshtemal throws will be very popular with beach goers.

How do the seasons affect your business?

Quilts are perfect all year round, and the fresh designs mean they work well for all seasons. We encourage using colourful or neutral bed sheets to tone and set the right bedroom environment for the season. The peshtemal throws are possibly the most versatile investment and work for bathroom, gym, beach or blanket over a pushchair or on the sofa.

Do you have any projects coming up?

We are developing a few news ideas ready for Winter 2018.

What has been your biggest achievement in your business?

Launching it! Its so easy not to get round to launching your idea, and making excuses for why it's not a great time to do it. In the end I just went for it.

What has been your biggest hurdle?

Keeping up with digital marketing, social media and promotion opportunities.

What do you think has made your business successful?

Never letting things get in the way of progress, even mistakes can be turnaround into something positive.

What advice would you give someone looking to start a business?

Join a network group or local entrepreneur meet up. You will get all the support and guidance there to set you off in the right direction. There are Facebook Groups as well as face to face meetings. It's a very supportive, collaborative community so have confidence to share you ideas and ask for help.

What is your price range of products?

We range from £26 - £240

What are your popular products?

The peshtemal throws are very popular at the moment, especially the Happy one. I think it just makes people smile as well as being very useful.

Where do you see your business in 5 years' time?

Our 2020 plan aims to open a retail shop in the next few years. We are also exploring a mobile van to take to festivals and pop-up/market stall opportunities. I definitely see the brand growing through face to face opportunities rather than just online.

Tell us a little about you the owner?

I'm a corporate communications specialist with 25 years of experience working for many well know brands. I have loved my career, it's just time for something else.

If you had to describe your business in five words, what would they be?

Sleep, rest, comfort, care, fun.

Who is your business aimed at?

Because of its fun personality the quilts are aimed for people who like something a bit different. The small quilts work really well for children and the clever designs actually entertain them as well as keep them cosy. My daughter often lies on her bed telling me the story of what she can see in the designs.

The peshtemal throws are designed to bring some fun into a gym session, visit to the beach, even bathtime! So target is fun people. Funsters.

What makes you stand out from your competitors?

The best bit about the business. There are no competitors. You can never have too many throws and blankets in your life! For example a mix of beautiful calm neutral coloured throws with bold design quilts works really well in a bedroom, a warm woolly blanket can be layered with a lighter throw.

Have you got anything exciting coming up?

We are about to launch an exciting competition to win a peshtemal throw. Watch out for more information on Facebook and Instagram. And planning a Facebook Group about sleep, rest and skin care, will launch in April 2018.
