What is your business name and how did you come up with it?
My brand name is kyungdesigns - My name is Kate Yung and I design all my work myself!
What products do you sell?
I initially started my business by designing wedding invitations, but have since branched out and now design greeting cards of all occasions, prints and wedding stationery. I hand paint everything and the medium I use is mainly watercolour and I also specialise in calligraphy.
What does a typical day look like?
As I have a full time job alongside kyungdesigns, I do all my creations in the evenings and weekends! When I am less busy, I love working on my sketchbook whenever I can.
What hours are you open?
I'm open 24/7! Just drop me an email or message on my social media platform and I will get back to you as soon as possible.
How many people are behind your business?
I am a one man band but hope to expand my business in the next few years.
When did you launch?
I launched about a year ago and have not looked back since!
What's your favourite part of running your business?
Creating bespoke designs and the positive feedback from my clients, it's a great feeling to know that my designs have made an impact on someone.
What got you into the business?
I have always been an arty person and loved to paint whenever I get the opportunity. I decided to learn calligraphy and picked it up as a hobby having been inspired by all the works on Pinterest. A hobby then turned into a small business of mine having been encouraged by my family and friends who have always believed in my creativity and work.
What makes your business unique?
I hand illustrate all my designs and I have a particular love for florals! I also love animals and have started launching cards with

Do you have a shop/website?
I have an Etsy and Depop page @kyungdesigns and I am soon to launch my own website! Watch this space....
Do you offer specialist services?
I offer wholesale to stockists and personalised bespoke designs are my favourite as I am out of my comfort zone and usually design something completely different from what I usually have in mind.
Where are you located? Does your location reflect your product?
I am based in South-West London and I do love painting skylines as I've lived in cities all my life but I would say majority of my designs are based on my personality being a big fan of all things florals and animals.
How do the seasons affect your business?
I do seasonal stock for my greeting cards but do bespoke designs throughout the year. I am in the process of designing seasonal stock for wedding invitations too. Christmas is usually the most popular time of the year for my greeting cards whereas summer is the most popular for wedding invitations.
Do you have any projects coming up?
I am looking to launch more occasion cards in the upcoming weeks and will start brainstorming this year's Christmas card range (believe it or not!) I will also be doing a range of wedding invitation range that will be available in my etsy shop.
What has been your biggest achievement in your business?
Selling my greeting cards in gift shops - I thank my stockists for giving me the chance to put my name out there as this has been a big step for me!
What has been your biggest hurdle?
Breaking into the Etsy market! I think I still have a lot to learn but I am grateful for every sale.
What do you think has made your business successful?
I think any social media platform (especially Instagram for me) helps a lot, it gives your brand the recognition you want and I also think keeping to a consistent style helps every artist get their works out to the right audience.
What advice would you give someone looking to start a business?
Do not quit! It is not a walk in the park but it is so satisfying and exciting knowing you have the opportunity to develop something you have created all by yourself and able to share this with the public. I have also learnt to always ask questions, even if you might think they are silly! There is a big community of artists out there who are incredibly helpful and we have all been on the same boat.
What is your price range of products?
I sell my greeting cards for RRP £2.50 - £3.50, dependant on the design. As my wedding stationery is made to order, the price varies on the design and quantity.
What are your popular product?
My clients and stockists are especially fond of my floral designs as this is what I specialise in!
