What is your business name and how did you come up with it?

My business name is True Love Keepsakes. I came up with the name after having my son, seven years ago. The immense love I felt for him immediately made me realise what 'true love' really means and feels like.

What products do you sell?

I create mainly Fingerprint Jewellery as well as handprint and footprint jewellery. I can also capture the actual writing or artwork a loved one has produced and turn it into a stunning piece of jewellery for you to wear. I can capture the prints of anyone of any age from babies to adults. I use Pure Silver and each item can be personalised with a name and/or date.

I also capture the prints of loved ones who have recently passed. I provide kits to funeral directors to take the prints which I then use to create a piece of jewellery for a relative to wear and treasure.

What does a typical day look like?

After taking my son to school, I usually come back home, check my emails, social media pages, then begin to work on orders. I'm lucky to work from the comfort of my home when making my jewellery.

What hours are you open?

I sell my jewellery online, so my business is always open!

How many people are behind your business?

It's just me! I hand make all of my Pure Silver Jewellery. My engraved items are outsourced and made by another lovely Mother.

When did you launch?

I launched my business in 2014

What's your favourite part of running your business?

My happy place is when I'm making my keepsakes, I love being creative and producing a piece that someone will treasure forever. Knowing that I've helped to preserve a memory is what motivates me.

What got you into the business?

As a first time Mum, I was surprised at how quickly my son was changing. As a baby, I could see changes weekly. I wanted to capture his hands and feet before he got any bigger. I'm grateful that I can say that I have my own collection of precious keepsake jewellery of my son's prints.

What makes your business unique?

I think my story makes my business unique. I had a desire to capture my son's hands and footprints so I understand how other parents feel. I know just how fast children grow so I appreciate that parents want to capture memories so that they have something to look back on to remember a time when their children were small. My jewellery can be personalised to suit your requirements. I offer a personalised service, you can contact me with any questions you have, I'm here to help you achieve the keepsake you've been longing for.

Have you any previous experience or interest in this field?

I've always had a love for creativity and design. I studied A-level Art and Design before moving onto completing a degree in Fashion Design. I moved away from the industry to teach, which I love but being creative with my hands has always been a passion of mine.

Do you offer specialist services?

All my products can be personalised. I also take bespoke orders. For example, if you should want something different from the standard pieces I create. I can make something specific to your requirements.

Where are you located? Does your location reflect your product?

I'm located in Birmingham but I sell online across the UK

Do you ship worldwide?

I accept worldwide orders but you would need to contact me first before placing an order so that I can discuss your requirements.

How do the seasons affect your business?

I sell my keepsake jewellery throughout the year. My jewellery is perfect for birthdays, Valentine's Day, Mother's Day, Father's Day and Christmas. During Christmas I sell personalised Christmas items such as Tree Decorations and Christmas Eve Boxes.

Do you have any projects coming up?

I'll be extending my range to provide jewellery for those of you that love your cats and dogs, in the form of Paw Print Jewellery.

What has been your biggest achievement in your business?

A couple of years ago I made jewellery for two mothers who tragically lost their children in a car crash. I was reminded just how important the service is that I provide. I preserve memories of our loved ones who are still with us and those that we have sadly lost.

What has been your biggest hurdle?

For me, juggling work, home and running a business has taken time to balance. I think I have a good balance now and enjoy going to work to teach and working for myself.

What do you think has made your business successful?

The service that I provide, it's a personable one. I know the stories behind each order I receive, whether it be for a birthday, anniversary or special occasion. I know my customer's name and through making a piece of jewellery, I get to know a little about their family and life. I care about each and every one of them and it shows in the pieces I create.

What advice would you give someone looking to start a business?

My advice would be to keep going. Some days, you will feel like giving up, some days it will feel like nothing's going your way but don't give up. I find that something good is just around the corner, if you just keep going. I would also advise that you have a good support network around you. It doesn't have to be big, it could be a supportive, friend, partner or parent, someone in your corner that will be that voice of reason when you’re having doubts. Lastly, I would say enjoy it, enjoy every aspect of it, especially the journey along the way to success.

What is your price range of products?

My items range from £50 for a small fingerprint charm to £220 for a triple handprint necklace.

My fingerprint jewellery is my most popular range, the fingerprint necklace is my most popular piece.

Where do you see your business in 5 years' time?

I would love to be making more keepsake products, I'm always on the outlook for new items to launch. My ultimate goal is to be doing this full time with the odd day of Supply Teaching.

Tell us a little about you the owner?

We'll I was born and bred in London and moved to Birmingham 11 years ago as I fell in love with a Brummie who already had a son, Josh, who became my Step-Son. Before then I was working in Fashion PR after graduating from Uni. I didn't like the job, it was very cut-throat and hostile so I decided to leave and did work experience in a local school, I loved it so decided to take up teaching. I did a Post Graduate in Primary Education and worked in London for four years whilst maintaining a long distance relationship. Fifteen years later we're still together and very happy with our two boys. My partner is my support system, he has been my champion since day one. I don't think I could have started my business without his support.

If you had to describe your business in five words, what would they be?

Sentimental, timeless, precious, meaningful, love.

Who is your business aimed at?

My business is mainly aimed at Mums who have Primary Aged Children but I also have Dads and other family members buying from me as gifts for loved ones.

What makes you stand out from your competitors?

The communication I maintain with my customers. They are updated on the progress of their order and prior to ordering there tends to be a lot of communication to ensure they're requirements are understood. For example, they might want a specific message on one charm from the other and they might want a charm by a particular date to mark a special occasion. Also, they might need advice on taking their children's prints, I can help them with the entire ordering process to make it easy for them.

As well as producing new product of Paw Prints, I'm also going to be offering Date of Birth Hand and Footprint Pictures. I also have another product specifically for Mums being developed but I can't say too much now so keep your eyes peeled!
